Walkin' & Rollin' & Runnin' Virtual 5K/10K
After COVID-19, we are not currently able to do our typical fundraiser costume reveal parties and costume workshops with our volunteers, so we wanted to create a way for our fans and supporters to help us raise funds and enable us to build more costumes for more kids for the upcoming season.
During the summer of 2021, friends, fans, and family joined us in our mission by donating and/or contributing miles! They grabbed their family and friends to create a TEAM to help us reach our goal. They could Walk, Roll, Run, Bike, Swim or even play Wheelchair Rugby - it doesn’t matter as long as they were having fun and helping raise awareness by sharing their images on social media. We asked people to feel free to dress in costume while running too! It was just another way to display our cause and if we saw a photo of anyone in costume participating, we shared it on our social media pages too! Check out the Hashtag: #WRCVirtualRun |
The Sweaty Selfies!
It’s simple to do, you can do it anywhere in the world, and you don’t even have to do it all at one time! Some of these people who were posting their “Sweaty Selfies” after completing a run, are just taking it little by little. It was meant to be fun, not a chore. They could enjoy the summer, and they could walk, roll, run, swim, bike, and even play wheelchair rugby!
The In-Person Event Was AWESOME!
We had an “informal” little gathering of an In-Person 5K/10K for anyone in the Kansas City area that wanted to run with others, they were welcome to come out and participate with a group. We had 25 people show up for this event and it was a lot of fun on a shaded path along a creek.
Daniel Wise, self proclaimed “meathead” and big supporter of Walkin’ & Rollin’ Costumes, offered to attempt the In-Person 5K in a wheelchair. We are happy to say that he survived, despite Daniel thinking he was going to die in the process. He even made a respectable 45 minute 5K in the wheelchair. Not bad, Daniel. Sorry your tire went flat. ;-)

Do We Have SWAG? Yes, Yes We Do!
People who registered early were able to get one of our custom made finishing medals. The medals showcase two wheelchair costumes with the theme of our run being “Starting Out Small.” Those who completed the Virtual 5K, received the Ant-Man Wheelchair costume medal. Those who completed the Virtual 10K, received the Wasp Wheelchair costume medal. Complete both, and receive both finishing medals.
