Who's up for a little... MURDER BALL?
Team up for a game of Wheelchair Rugby (commonly referred to as Murder Ball!) Crash into other players and try not to tip over. Think of it as a mix between Soccer, Basketball, and a Demolition Derby, where every player is in a wheelchair. It’s a single-elimination tournament, where the winning team will then play against the National Wheelchair Rugby team, the KC Revolution.
Teams are made up of 6 players and can be co-ed. They can also be made up of students, teachers, faculty, or a mix of any of those. Challenge your teachers to a game. |
How is the game played???

This looks dangerous . . . and FUN!
While the video above shows many players flipping in their wheelchairs, keep in mind that the video is of Olympic teams playing, so they are VERY aggressive. Is it likely someone will flip in this tournament? Possibly, but more than likely no one will. Even if you do flip, don't worry, it's not any different than falling down while playing any other sport. Except with this sport, someone else usually has to help you get back up.

How do I sign up for the Tournament?
Before you sign up, get a team of 6 players together. This is a costumed tournament, so pick a team name that can be represented in your costumes. Then, when you have that information, each member must register and include your team name so we can group the players together for the brackets. Get creative with your names and costumes:
Recommendations: While optional, we do highly recommend a pair of gloves to help with traction on the wheelchairs and gripping the ball. We do NOT recommend using capes, tutus, or anything that could get caught in the wheels as part of your costumes. |
I want a "ringer" on my team!Your team has the chance to earn a member of KC Revolution, (Olathe Northwest's own, Reese Davis) to play on your team as a 7th member. In order to do this, register your team early. Then a donation page specific to your team will be created. Your job is to raise the most amount of money for your team before the tournament. The team with the most donations when the tournament starts will be the winner and will be awarded the KC Revolution player for a single game of their choice (excluding the final game against KC Revolution).
The strategy comes in as to when you use your advantage in a single elimination tournament. |
All donations will be split evenly between The Olathe North West Engineering Academy, Walkin' & Rollin' Costumes, and the KC Revolution. Thank you to the KC Revolution for providing all the rugby wheelchairs for the tournament, and for helping coach the student teams.
